Stimulus

The Democrats in the House want to give $2,000 per month to every person 16 years of age or older in the United States for at least six months or until unemployment goes to the rate it was at before the Wuhan Virus Pandemic happened.  Unemployment was at it's best level in 50 years.  So there is a good chance it will take a while to get back to that level.  While I expect unemployment to fall quickly once everyone is released from stay at home orders, it could take a couple years to get back to the full employment we had before the pandemic.

I think the Democrats are counting on that to allow them to buy the election.  $2,000 per person over 16 for a family of four is $96,000.00 per year.  That's a huge amount of money.  Where will it come from and how will we pay it back?  With that much money flowing into the retail economy can inflation and high interest rates be far behind?  I suspect that's how the Democrats intend to pay off the debt, by inflation rising so high the money becomes almost worthless.

While I do think any further stimulus should only be paid directly to the people, I think we need to be reasonable in the amount and the duration.  The first stimulus check was $1,200.00 per adult and $500.00 per child, and I think that is plenty, and three months should be more than generous, and only give the money to citizens of the United States.  We don't need to give away the nation because of the pandemic; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Open Carry

Walked into the supermarket yesterday just behind a man carrying a pistol on his hip and wearing a mask.  Just an average day in Kentucky when there is a pandemic.  I was more surprised by the mask than the gun.

When I lived in California people would have been calling 911 and having panic attacks at the sight of a man walking into a store with a gun.  Here in Kentucky no one even notices.  I see it pretty often, and even I don't pay much attention to it anymore.

Here in Kentucky we have the freedom to carry a gun to defend ourselves.  We don't need a permit, a background check, and permission from the government to exercise our right to keep and bear arms.  This is true in the small towns, large towns, rural and urban areas.  We have a murder rate substantially lower that Detroit, Baltimore, and Los Angeles.  The city of Louisville has a murder rate three times that of the rest of the state.  The presence of lawful gun carry does not cause crimes, but the absence of lawfully carried guns does create victims; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Don't Take Away My Rights

Over the next few elections remember which governors and which mayors tried to take away your Constitutional rights and what party they belonged to.  Democrat governors from all over the country, and Democrat mayors took every opportunity to take away your rights.

You can't peacefully assemble.  You can't buy or sell a gun.  You can't drive down the street and go shopping.  You can't go to church to worship God in the manner of your choice.  You cannot leave home without a mask.  You cannot visit your best friends or your relatives.

In the United States today the Democratic party of John F. Kennedy is long dead.  They no longer are run by people who care about your freedom or by people that trust you to do the right thing.  That party is run by petty dictators who strip you of your rights at a moments notice, without due process, and without legislative authorization. I think if they told people the nature of the emergency and asked them to comply, voluntarily, most people would have done what they asked, but their first instinct was to take away your rights.  Don't let your rights be taken away, remember them at the next election and vote them out; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Beef It's Imported

The United States is now importing beef from the African country of Namibia.  I have nothing against Namibia.  It is mostly Christian, and reasonably stable, and has a democratic form of government.

What bothers me is that we are importing beef and yet at the same time American beef prices are 1/2 what they were before the Wuhan Virus pandemic. We are importing beef and yet we are encouraging American beef producers to kill off their herds to create a shortage and increase prices.

If we have a surplus of beef, should we not stop beef imports?  I think we should not import any products that are in surplus unless there is an over-riding need to import the product.  I doubt that beef from Namibia is so special that we should prefer it to American grown beef, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Stop the Special Interest Money Transfers

The government should stop all the bailout money due to the Wuhan Virus.  All loans and debt forgiveness should stop.  If there is a need to give out any more direct payments they should only be given as direct payments to all adults.  Just as the government gave each adult $1,200 already, any more stimulus money should go to the people directly.

That is the only thing the Federal government should do to stimulate the economy.  It is the ultimate in democracy.  Give the money directly to the people and let them spend it.  If the Kennedy Center needs more money then people can spend it there.  If restaurants are hurting, then people can spend money eating out.  If businesses are still closed, people can buy a gift certificate online to support their favorite business and cash it when they reopen.

We don't need to give any more money to multi-million dollar companies that are politically well connected.  We don't need to bail out the failed retirement systems of government workers.  We don't need to pile up trillions of dollars in debt that will only go to benefit a few stockholders and millionaires.  The best thing to do is put everyone back to work as soon as possible.  Otherwise, give money directly to everyone or stop making stimulus payments; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Retirement Mistakes

Many state and local politicians are trying to get the Federal government to pay for their mistakes.  Many states give huge pensions to their retired employees.  When I retired on Social Security I got about a third of what I made in the private sector when I was working.

Many government officials make as much or more when they retire as they did when they were working.  Not only do they get a big retirement check, they continue to get medical benefits free or for low cost.  Many government employees can retire after 30 years of service.  So consider the government worker who enters the workforce after college at age 22 and puts in 33 years, many of them will retire at full pay at age 55.  This is why big government unions give so much money to Democrats, they are protecting their huge retirement systems.

The mistake comes in when it comes to paying for that retirement.  State and local governments are supposed to put money away every paycheck, and take some from the employee too, and it goes into a retirement fund.  That fund is invested and over the next 20 to 30 years it grows and out of that fund they pay the retired employees.  But often they negotiate that the employee has to pay less and the government will pay more.  The problem is the government often does not pay their share.  They figure they will make it up later.  Now many states, like California have retirement systems that are on the verge of collapse because they did not keep up with the payments to the retirement fund.  Now they are hoping Congress will bail them out under the disguise of Wuhan Virus stimulus money.  This is a scam to bail out financially dishonest states who have gotten themselves into default because they pay too much in retirement and don't save enough to cover the expense.  It was obvious to me it was a house of cards waiting to fall twenty years ago; don't let these crooks get away with it; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Harvard Worth Billions Gets Millions

Harvard has a $40 billion endowment fund.  It's the largest such fund of any school in the world.  So when the Democrats pushed aid for schools, naturally, Harvard got $9 million.  Why are taxpayers paying Harvard $9,000,000.00?

They are paying that money to Harvard because they are one of the elites and in time of trouble we have to save the elites first.  They are superior to the trade school that teaches people how to be welders, and security guards, and dental hygienists.  They have a gender studies program and that's much more important.

The is another example of how the elites take money paid by taxpayers who make a modest income and give it to the rich. The Kennedy Center got tens of millions of dollars, and now Harvard.  News flash, the people at Harvard now say they are giving the money back.  Money they never should have taken. The real question is will they really give the money back, and will it stay back?  Don't be surprised if they manage to figure out some other way to fleece the taxpayers; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

US Navy Rules of Engagement

President Trump has authorized the US Navy to destroy Iranian ships that approach US Navy vessels in an offensive or in-appropriate manner.  The Iranians have harassed US Navy ships for years.  The Navy patrols international waters making sure the sea lanes are open to navigation and free from attack by Iran or by pirates.

The US Navy released photos just this week of Iranian speedboats racing alongside and in front of American Navy ships.  The rules of the sea say that smaller, faster, more maneuverable vessels should give way to larger, slower, less maneuverable ships.  The Iranians do this as a way to taunt the US as they assume we are too professional and too afraid of an incident to fire upon them.  This is dangerous in many ways.  It is easy for the Iranian ships to make a mistake and accidentally ram one of the American ships, causing damage and perhaps injury to Americans and Iranian sailors.

The greater danger is that professional sailors remember the attack on the USS Cole an American guided missile destroyer at anchor in a harbor in Yemen in the year 2000.  A small boat loaded with explosives approached the Cole and exploded against the hull.  17 American sailors were killed and 39 injured and millions of dollars worth of damage was done to the ship.  Our Navy needs to be able to defend itself against these kinds of attacks, and threats of such attacks, and President Trump has made the right call to destroy these ships if they harass the American Navy at sea; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Voter ID

The Kentucky state legislature voted to require a government issued identification card when people go to vote.  This is an important safeguard to insure people who vote only vote one time under their own name.  With the many close elections we have had in the history of this nation, every vote should be valid and true.  The integrity of the vote is critical to a proper, legitimate, functioning democracy.  Governor Beshear, however, vetoed the voter ID bill.

The state legislature was not deterred and have over-ridden his veto.  The measure does not go into effect during this next primary in June, but goes into effect for the general election, in November. This gives people six months to get a government issued identification card.  There is even a provision to allow people to get a free identification if they cannot afford one.  People in India and Mexico are required to show government issued voting cards to vote in elections there so certainly we should be able to dot that here.

Proper identification is required to drive a car, fly on an airplane, buy a gun, and do many other things people do many times in their lives.  There is no excuse for any American who is not in a coma to not have an identification. If people are incapable of obtaining a free government issued identification and presenting it when they go to vote then perhaps they are not responsible enough to be trusted with voting; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Stop Immigration

President Trump has announced that he is going to sign an executive order that prohibits any immigration into the United States due to the Wuhan Virus Pandemic.  I think the order should continue long after the National Emergency has ended.  It should continue at least until the economic disruption caused by the national shutdown has been resolved.

This is one of the many things I like about President Trump.  He uses his power as the Executive to get things done.  Too many previous Republican presidents talked a good game about how conservative they were but did very little that was conservative.  Republicans have ran for office as conservatives but once they get elected they govern in the middle or even to the left.

By stopping all immigration we will be able to put Americans back to work faster because they will not have to compete with cheaper foreign workers.  There will be somewhat of a labor shortage and market forces will compel employers to pay more to get better workers.  Keep in mind those on the Left don't support hard working average Americans, they support foreigners.  The Left will call this racist, and they will file lawsuits to require the President to allow immigrants into the nation.  Only citizens have a right to come here; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Locking Down Your Life

Many states are locking down their people while leaving essential businesses open for business.  Michigan has closed gun stores.  The Constitution says that the people have a right to keep and bear arms.  But in Michigan you don't have a right to buy guns or ammunition if the Governor thinks there is an emergency.

Michigan has kept abortion clinics open during the Wuhan Virus Pandemic Emergency.  That's because abortion is a right beloved by the left.  So naturally a liberal governor is going to keep abortion clinics open.  So buying a gun, which is in the Constitution and has been legal since the founding of the nation is prohibited, but getting an abortion is essential.

The state of Michigan has also kept open the marijuana dispensaries, the liquor stores, and the sales of lottery tickets.  None of those three activities are protected by the Constitution, and none of them are essential like food, or fuel.  But they do have one thing in common, they all pay a lot of tax money to the state.  So marijuana, liquor and lottery tickets are essential for the state to keep the money coming in, but not essential for life.  The liberals like marijuana, liquor and lotteries because people who are high, drunk, or dreaming of easy money are a lot easier to control; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Buy American and Save Your Job

I believe in free trade, but it has to be fair trade.  One of the things I have noticed is many products try to pretend like they are American made when they are actually made in a foreign country, particularly Communist China.  Companies will print their name and the address of the parent company on the package that includes a United States mailing address.  This gives the impression that it is an American product.  When in reality, the product in made in Communist China, or the the product is made by a company owned by a Communist Chinese company, sometimes made it the USA, but the profits go back to Communist China.

I think we should demand better labels on point of origin and ownership of companies.  If a product is grown, manufactured, produced, printed, assembled, painted, in Communist China, or if the company that made the product is owned by a Communist Chinese company then it should be marked that way.  In large letters, the same size as the product name, and should include the flag of Communist China.  Like this:

HUAWEI  Made in Communist China
This way we have full disclosure about where the products we buy come from and the free market can decide if we want to buy Communist Chinese goods or not.  I prefer not to when I can buy products from other nations, particularly American made and owned products; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Shall Not Be Infringed

The Wuhan Virus Pandemic has exposed Democrats for the tyrants that many of them are in reality.  They try to pretend the are all for the people, but they are not; they are enemies of liberty and don't trust average Americans.  We knew this was true when Hillary Clinton said that many of President Trump's supporters were "deplorables."  But it goes deeper and is more sinister.

The best practice during this pandemic to avoid getting the disease is it stay home and stay away from other people.  There are many who must go to work because their jobs are essential.  There are many who need to leave their home to perform many mundane tasks such as grocery shopping.  The Democrats, however, don't want you to shop for guns and ammunition, nor do they want you to go to church.  The whole point of having a Bill of Rights is to list those rights that are inalienable, meaning that they are due to all citizens, all the time, given by our Creator, and not subject to government whim, or revocation.

Many Democrats shut down churches.  They think that as a mayor or governor they can infringe on your Constitutional right to freedom of religion.  They also shut down many gun stores, because they think they can infringe on your right to keep and bear arms.  They like to tell us we have religious liberty, but they don't want you to practice your Christian religion at work, at school, at the ball field, and now, even in church.  They say they support the right to keep and bear arms, but close guns shops and don't let you buy guns or ammunition.  However, they don't close down the abortion mills.  The Democrats have found that your Constitutional rights only apply to rights that liberal judges say are implied in the Constitution, not to rights that are actually enumerated in the Constitution; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Three Phases

https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/#criteria

President Trump has released his guidelines to the nation on how to re-open the country after the Wuhan Virus Pandemic.  He has proposed a three phase plan that will be implemented by the governors of each state and by local officials, particularly mayors.  This is an excellent plan.  The nation is not a uniform set of demographics and should not be treated as such.

We have a federal system that takes into account the differences in local conditions.  By allowing each state to make their own determination to implement each phase President Trump is allowing Americans the freedom and local control that we deserve.  If the President tried to dictate what plan we would do and when for the whole country there is no way the individual needs of each part of the nation would be adequately served.  This also puts responsibility on the local officials to get it right, and does not let them blame the White House for their failures to open or their failures to keep their state or city closed longer.

The people of sparsely populated Wyoming don't need the same social distancing and work restrictions as the people of Manhattan.  Three times the number of people live in Manhattan compared to Wyoming.  There are 70,000 people per square mile in Manhattan and 6 per square mile in Wyoming.  The President is giving the freedom to each state to determine their own destiny.  This is a great plan, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Cut WHO

President Trump has cut the US contribution to the World Health Organization to zero.  I am in favor of this cut in funding.  The United Nations has become a method by which rich Western nations can transfer wealth to poor nations and get nothing in return.

Communist China reports a gross domestic product about 60% the size of the United States GDP.  However, when it comes to contributions to the World Health Organization, the Chinese contribute about one fourth or less of what the US gives.

If the WHO is doing good work saving lives and helping people, then I suspect with the same amount of money the United States could do a better job and forward American interests as well.  American taxpayers should not be paying for services that provide for little if any tangible value to American citizens; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Religion Should Trump Politics

Nancy Pelosi constantly tries to imply that she is a good Roman Catholic.  The Roman Catholic Church is on record as opposing gay marriage.  Homosexual behavior in thought, word, or deed is considered a sin.  Nancy Pelosi favors gay marriage and is opposed to any kind of discrimination against homosexuals.  So Nancy Pelosi would be fine with forcing religious schools to hire openly gay teachers.

Nancy Pelosi is in favor of abortion on demand, paid for by taxpayer dollars.  She has even given interviews where she misstates the Roman Catholic Church position on abortion.  The church has always taught that every human soul and human life has dignity and that abortion can never be morally right.

This behavior is typical of many politicians who are Roman Catholic.  They pretend to be good, God fearing, Bible believing church goers who ascribe to church teachings, but at every opportunity they vote against those teachings.  They care only for their own power and don't care what the church teaches.  Such politicians should be rebuked by their churches and Christian people should not vote for them; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Stimulus Bill

I have read several articles that say the Republicans want more money for this program to loan money to small businesses so they can keep paying their employees.  It is apparently popular, I read it that nearly half of the original $250 billion was already gone.  It's probably a good enough program to give them another influx of money to make up for people who are out of work.

Still, I don't believe the urgency is there like it was the first time.  This time the Republicans need to stand fast against the Democrats.  I have read the Democrats think this is a good program and they want it to continue also.  That means the Republicans need to make this a clean bill, one that has one topic, cash for small business loans and nothing else.

No special money for the Kennedy Center, no special LGBT money, no HIV programs, no illegal alien money, no changes to voting procedures, no firearms regulations, nothing else.  It is appalling how the Democrats held up the previous bill for a week to get special interest money into the first stimulus bill.  The Republicans need to stick to their guns on this one, no extras or no bill, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

When Can We Go Back to Work?

MRS Bunkermeister and I were talking today about the economy and how to reopen the nation after the lock down.  I suggested that we reopen by region.  Perhaps the sparse states of Wyoming, and the Dakotas could open first to see how it goes before we move on to more populous areas.  I think she had a better idea, open up by industry.  Many jobs like healthcare, and fireman, and police officer are essential so they never got shut down.  Other jobs, however, are important, but not essential, and maybe we could open them up next.

President Trump has suggested allowing elective surgeries again soon.  Perhaps we could open up manufacturing of consumer goods.  Companies could operate at partial capacity so the employees could maintain some social distance in the factory.  Maybe we could open more food service places and offer limited dine in, by cutting down on the density of the seating for a while.  Open churches, but again, limit the size of the meetings and keep social distance.  So rather one service with 500 people, perhaps have five services of 100 people sitting farther apart from one another.

I think some of the last things we should open are the major entertainment venues.  Sports stadiums, are too dangerous, concert halls, movie theaters, amusement parks can wait.  I think the last thing to open should be the schools.  I would just cancel this semester and summer school altogether, except for at home or distance learning.  The kids can wait for September to see if re-opening the nation is a good idea.  Even when it's all open, I may stay home an extra week or two, just to be sure; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

The Lord Has Risen

The holiest day in all of Christianity is Easter.  It's not Christmas.  It's not the day that Christ was born, it's the day he was resurrected from the dead.  Christ was born, died, and rose again from the dead.  He died to save us from our sins.  He was the sacrifice for all the evil we have done in our lives.

This year many of us are unable to attend church due to the Wuhan Virus.  A terrible plague that has swept the world and killed tens of thousands of people.  So our governments and many of our churches have decided we need to stay home this Easter.  The church I attend is going to try a virtual service this Easter.

Still, we must be grateful for the sacrifice of Christ and for our ability to worship him at home, or at church.  When this plague is over most of us will go back to church on Sundays.  There are those, in Communist China, in Muslim nations, and other places who won't go back to church, because they are discriminated against, oppressed, even jailed, tortured, and murdered because they go to a Christian church.  A plague is no new danger to them.  Keep the persecuted church in your prayers this Easter morning as you pray at home; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Between Good Friday and Easter

I used to hear people say, I don't have to go to church to pray, I can pray at the seashore with the majesty of the waves.  I can pray in a cathedral of redwood trees a thousand years old.  I can pray alone, at home, I don't need a pipe organ and a hundred other people.

Well guess what people?  God has called your bluff.  It's time for Easter and we all need to pray.  Pray for forgiveness of our sins.  Pray for our nation that has half a million homeless people.  Pray for our nation as it murders, through abortion, a million and a half babies every year, pray for our nation that murders 17,000 people every year.

Pray for our nation that thinks two men can marry one another or that a little boy can have surgery and become a little girl.  Pray for our nation that thinks it's okay that we have nearly a million divorces every year.  Pray for our nation that we have a million and a half unwed mothers in the USA every year.  Pray that we have millions of Americans addicted to drugs and about 50,000 of them die of drug related deaths every year.  And pray for salvation from the Wuhan Virus.  We have much to be grateful for in the United States of America, so give thanks for all that too.  But we have much to atone for as well, so humble yourself before God and repent of your sins, I know I intend to; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

More Money

The Democrats like to claim they are for the little guy.  The small business operator and the working man.  Those are lies.  Those are just two more categories they can use to divide people.  The stimulus package is a good example.  The Republicans included a loan program where small businesses can borrow money to pay their employees during this crisis.  Then if they use a certain percentage of that money for payroll they can have the loans forgiven.

This program has proven very popular and already almost half of the money is gone, in only a couple days.  The Republicans wanted a vote to authorize additional money for these loans.  Just a simple voice vote to enlarge this program.  A program even many Democrats have said is useful.

Rather than vote on it, the Democrats have said that they want to wait.  They want to wait because they are out of town practicing social distancing and don't want to come back to Washington.  They want to wait because they want to double the size of the program to give money to other people.  In other words, they can't be bothered to leave home to do the business of the nation in time of crisis.  They can't pass a bill to help small business and workers unless they can fill it with their own pet projects. Perhaps the Kennedy Center needs more money; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

The Gift of Time

Remember that time you said, "If I had more time I would do that thing."  Well, now that everyone is locked up at home, this could be that extra time you wanted.  My wife and I are reading selections from the Bible.  Both of us have had small "Ah, ha!" moments.

I suspect it's because we have so few distractions now.  We have our minds clear of noise, and clutter, and no longer have a sense of urgency.  We can relax and focus on what we are doing.  I re-started this blog after several years off, because I was too busy before.

We each have only so many years, and days, and hours.  This is a good time to use them in ways we had not considered before.  Since we have been on lock down for a while, some of those urgent issues have been resolved.  Use this time, accept this time at home as a gift from God, and enjoy it; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Hold Congress Responsible

One of the little tricks Congress pulls is they try to make unpopular laws by forming governmental agencies and then granting the agencies the power to regulate a specific area of life.  Then the agency can take the heat for unpopular laws, that are not really laws, but regulations.  Regulations have the force of laws but are not specifically approved by Congress.  So Congress can say they had no part in making those regulations and can complain about unfair regulations, but do nothing about them.

I think it's time to reign in these unelected bureaucrats and force Congress to take responsibility at the same time.  Every year each Federal agency should be required to publish the regulations they want to go into effect the next year.  Then Congress should have to vote on them.  Congress should be allowed to make whatever changes they want to make before they vote.

In this way Congress can no longer hide behind "regulations."  The American people won't have to answer to career government employees who were never elected by anyone.  The regulations that Americans live under will have to be approved by Congress, every year, to insure some level of political accountability to the voters, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Democrats Are Divisive

Nancy Pelosi says she wants another trillion dollars in stimulus money and she will have a package ready in the next month.  How long should it take to figure out a stimulus package?  A trillion dollars is about $3,000.00 for every man, woman, and child in the nation.  How about we just send everyone a check for that amount?

That's won't do for the Democrats.  They want to tie the money to special interests.  They want money to go to individual Americans, but only if they can be divided up into tiny, little demographic groups so the Democrats can claim they are helping.  So a certain amount for women of color.  And a certain about for homosexual women of color.  And then a little extra for low income, homosexual women of color.  And finally some more for Muslim homosexual women of color, who own a small business.

You see the Democrats want do divide Americans into little groups and then dole out gifts to each group.  I believe we are not a collection of little groups, we are all Americans.  We deserve equal protection under the law, we don't deserve to be divided up into tiny tribes to fight against one another.  The Democrats want us to be divided so they can be the puppet masters and control us better, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Made in China

I think we should have new product labeling laws.  Every product should have the name of the country where it is made in large letters the same size as the product name.  It should also have the flag of the country on the label the same size as the name.  If the country is China, the name should be Communist China.

I want the words MADE IN COMMUNIST CHINA on every computer and plastic spoon made in the Peoples Republic of China and sold in the United States.  I want a big red communist flag on the front of that product.  And I would go further, if the company that makes the product is owned by a Chinese company, then that should be on the front of the packaged too.  OWNED BY COMMUNIST CHINA should be there to alert us that the profits will go overseas to Communist China.

Full disclosure is important.  Then people can know what they are buying.  Then people will know that those American brands that have been in business for 100 years are now Communist brands, made or owned by Communists.  As an American, I think I have a right to know who is profiting off of the money I spend, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing

The Economy

The US economy was very strong only a month ago.  The gross domestic product was growing.  The unemployment numbers were at historic lows.  The rate of inflation was low.  Gasoline prices were low.  Jobs were still growing.  The stock market was at historic highs. Then the Wuhan Virus hit and we saw all those numbers plunge.

I say, don't worry about it. At some point, a few weeks, a month or so we will return to our former way of life, only better.  There will be a pent up demand for goods and services that we could not get during isolation.  People will want to go to the beach, the park, and the ball game.  They will want to go shopping and buy new clothing, a new car, and new furniture.  And since they have been locked up in the house, they will have money to spend.  The government has increased unemployment, suspended payments on many kinds of bills and is giving people and businesses money and loans.

More importantly, people will have had time to re-connect to their family, having spent time with their loved ones.  They will realize that life is not just work, financials, the next promotion.  They will have had time to become re-acquainted with what is important in life, our loved ones; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Unemployment and the Stimulus

Joe Biden is calling for another stimulus package because unemployment is at 4.4%.  At the end of his term of office as President, President Obama had unemployment at 4.7%.  I did not hear Joe Biden screaming for a stimulus package then.

This just shows how robust the Trump economy has been in that despite all the problems with a world wide pandemic the economy is still doing better than it was in normal times under President Obama. Now certainly the difference here is that there is a National Emergency and it is likely that unemployment will get worse for a while.  The real question is what should we do about it?

What I don't want to do is rush into anything.  The House Democrats put billions of dollars into funding pet projects that never would have been funded had they needed to stand on their own merit.  I think we need to slow down, look at how these first three stimulus packages are working and go from there.  I also believe we should not continue to help any specific business; give money directly to the people and let them decide what business should get their cash.  That way competition, not politics will determine if struggling businesses will survive or not; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Not Entertaining

The Democrats are looking at investigating the American response to the Wuhan Virus.  They say they want to insure everything was done as well as it could be done.  They also want to make sure none of the two trillion dollars in stimulus funds were wasted.  They need only read the bill to see that billions of dollars were wasted.

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts recently finished a privately funded $250 million renovation in 2019.  They also got $41 million in Federal Funds in 2019.  Now they are getting $25 million in the Stimulus Package.  Even though they are getting $25 million in stimulus money they are still laying off hundreds of staff members.

If the point of the stimulus is to keep people employed, and keep them getting money, why is the Kennedy Center laying people off after their $25 million gift?  Why are they getting taxpayer funds at all?  At a time when Communist China owns billions of dollars in American bonds, and we are borrowing billions of dollars just to operate the Federal Government, can't we at least cut back on entertainment?  I think we can, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Get Real

I read a headline that said, "Men are more likely to die of the corona virus than women." Men and women are the only two genders the headline named because there are only two genders. Male and Female, men and women, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; that's all there is.

In a time of crisis often the fantasies of the rich, powerful, and insulated fall away and life suddenly becomes real again.  We no longer have time for hurting the feelings of those who choose to live in a fantasy land were they can select from 57 varieties of genders.  The pandemic is real and it's really life or death.  It's not about feelings, or making up a new gender and forcing everyone to call you something other than man or woman.

When times get hard, it's also time for things to get real.  It's time to drop the facades that a rich, and indulgent nation can pretend are real and face reality.  Perhaps people will realize that life is precious, life is real, and life was given to us by God and yet is very fragile.  Life is too important to be lived in a fantasy world, live a real life; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Emergency Response

I used to work as a Reserve Police Officer in a city in Southern California.  Our population was about 25,000 people.  One day I arranged for a training session with our local fire department for the Police Reserve Organization.  The Fireman reminded us that in a major regional emergency, such as a large earthquake, we were on our own.  He said they had one paramedic ambulance for the whole city.  In a major earthquake we could have hundreds of injured people, people trapped in rubble, and roads blocked by downed power wires.

This is typical for most cities.  We had very little emergency equipment stored up, and we received little training on how to use it.  Every part of the country has the potential for a major regional emergency.  Earthquake, fire, flood, volcano, blizzard, tornado, hurricane, drought, at least one of these is common in every part of the nation.

I have responded to emergencies that brought police or fire from 20, 50, 100 miles away from the initial scene of the incident.  I have responded with red lights and sirens to an incident over 100 miles away from the city where I worked.  This nation has done a fantastic job of responding to the Wuhan Virus.  We don't have the luxury of asking for help from fifty miles away, because the next city, next county, or next state is faced with the same problem.  This pandemic is unprecedented in our lifetimes, and I pray we will continue to follow the guidelines and do what we need to do to remain safe.  I am proud of the job our police, firemen, doctors, nurses, and health care professionals have done, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
