Student Loans

Colleges are making lots of money off of student loans.  The government uses taxpayer dollars to loan money to students that they spend on college tuition.  The colleges then employ staff and make a profit on the deal.

The students are then stuck with large loans and in a soft job market have little incentive or ability to pay them back.  Many students get the loan payments deferred so they are not paying on the loans at all, often for years and sometimes never pay them back.

The colleges should loan the students the money from their own funds.  As it is now, the schools have no stake in the outcome of the students lives.  If the student never graduates, the school has their money.  If the student never gets a job in their field of study, the school still has their money.  If the student never pays back their loan, the school still has their money.  The only one in the system who  has no risk is the school; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
