Pearl Harbor

Today is the anniversary of the attack on the US Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 2016 by the Imperial Japanese Navy.  While tensions were building in the Pacific, the US had no direct knowledge of an attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor on that day.

Intelligence estimates did believe the Japanese were planning to attack for weeks before the actual attack.  Troops had been put on alert a couple times before the real attack.  Most military experts suspected the United States and Japan were heading for war.  It was a total surprise to the American people.  They were totally shocked, and our military, long neglected, was very unprepared for war.

Today the US military is at a low ebb.  We have been fighting a half-hearted battle against radical Islam.  We have neglected our space abilities.  We have neglected our conventional and nuclear forces.  We have hamstrung our intelligence services and have drawn lines in the sand and did nothing when they were crossed.  America is in danger again; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
