Principles of War

The purpose of a nation using military force is to impose your will on your enemy.  If you don't intend to do that, then don't use force.  Identify what your enemy is doing that you want them to stop doing and then force them to stop it.  Clearly state your war goals and aims so that everyone knows what you intend to do and when you will stop.

Use overwhelming force so that your people are in less danger.  Use force rapidly so that the enemy does not have the ability to gather resources or allies in their fight against you.  Don't telegraph or explain your strategy so the enemy cannot prepare.

Don't tell the enemy what you won't do so they have to be ready for everything.  Don't lie, but censor the news so that your information does not leak out and compromise your operations.  Reward your friends who assist you and punish those who support your enemies.  President Obama has done none of these things in the Middle East; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
