Voter ID

Some people say that voter ID cards are discriminatory.  That's a lie.  Everyone in American society has some kind of identification issued by the government.  Nearly everyone has several types of government identification.

The motor vehicle department in California issues both drivers licenses and identification cards to people who don't drive.  They also register people to vote.  If they can do all this, then certainly any other state could do the same.

Motor vehicle departments are already set up to take photographs, take fingerprints, and issue a tamper proof identification with magnetic strip on it.  The cost to make a voter ID annotation on a driver license or identification card is almost zero.  The cost to provide a free ID card for voters is so low that I suspect any state could issue them for free.  People who don't get out much could be served by various local transportation agencies at no cost to the voter to and from the motor vehicle department.  There is no legitimate argument against a voter ID system; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
