Police Authority

You are not the boss of me.  You can't tell me what to do.  Who are you to order me around?  If a large man with a gun told you do so something, why does it seem like a good idea to challenge them in this manner?

People do that because it's the police.  They have become so inundated with people saying "question authority" and "do your own thing" that they no longer believe they have to submit to the lawful authority of the police.

The police have the legal authority to stop people, detain them and search them while they conduct an investigation of suspected criminal activity.  Criminal activity can be murder or a broken tail light.  Police have the legal authority to use whatever reasonable force is necessary to enforce their authority.  If you have a problem with the cops, do as the police officer says, then complain afterwards, even sue them if you need to.  But don't challenge them verbally or physically in the field; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
