Firearms Safety

http://training.nra.org/nra-gun-safety-rules.aspx

Nearly every time someone is accidentally injured by a firearm it is due to a failure to follow the basic safety rules.  ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.  Even if the gun is unloaded, keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Fingers do not belong on the trigger, unless you are ready to fire the gun.  ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.  The trigger finger should be indexed along the frame of the gun, parallel to the barrel.

ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.  Guns need to be kept in a safe place.  They should not be kept loaded if there is a possibility of children getting hold of the gun.  Guns are important tools that can be dangerous if they are not handled properly; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
