National Debt

“I place economy among the first and most important virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and in our comforts, in our labor and in our amusements.” - Thomas Jefferson

The United States in in terrible debt.  We are in such debt that we are borrowing money from the Communist Chinese and nearly everyone else in the world.  That makes us beholden to them.  We have to go with a cup in our hand asking for money.

I have no problem with the nation being in debt for short periods of time.  If we go into dept it should be for the purpose of conducting a war for our survival.  We are in a war, but not a declared war.  We are not in a war that at this time directly threatens our survival.

If we cannot pay for something, then we as a nation should not spend the money.  Out national debt throws off the whole economy.  It prevents money from being available for private individuals and private corporations.  This then leads the the government having to do more, and needing more money.  End deficit spending, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
