“The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If ‘Thou shalt not covet’ and ‘Thou shalt not steal’ were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free.” — John Adams, A Defense of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America, 1787

Some people think it's a crime to be rich.  Some people think the job of the government is to be some kind of Robin Hood.  They want the government to take from the rich and give to the poor.  It's not compassion to take money by force from one person and then give it to another.  It's theft.

Compassion is giving money or goods to other people out of the goodness of your heart.  It is giving money or goods to people who are needy because it's the right thing to do.  As we approach the Christmas holiday, remember those who are homeless, in want, in mental darkness; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
