Kiddie Porn

In California the conviction of over a hundred sex related crimes requires that the convicted criminal be placed on a sex offenders list.  They often have to register with local police and face other restrictions for the rest of their life.  Now some people are complaining about this because teenagers are being convicted of criminal behavior and they think it is unfair to have to be a sex offender for the next seventy years.

A girl takes photos of herself naked and puts them on a public forum could be publishing child pornography if she is under eighteen years of age.  If a twenty year old has consensual sex with his sixteen year old girlfriend he could be considered as a sex offender.  The age of consent in California is eighteen and so no one under eighteen is considered to be legally competent to give consent to have sex.

In my opinion we should be prosecuting more of these offenses not fewer.  Sexual relations should be reserved for a man and a woman who are married to each other and in private and consenting to the activity.  The farther we go from that ideal the more concerned that society rightfully expresses.  Children under eighteen should not be having sex, with each other, with older people and should not have nude photos of them posted on the Internet.  Parents need to teach their children proper behavior; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
