California Governor Jerry Brown likes to pretend that the state has money and is able to spend it on massive projects.  He wants to spend money on a high speed rail system.  It has been under construction for over ten years and there is not a single foot of rail that is usable.  Now he wants to build a giant tunnel system to provide water for Southern California.
California does not have the $23 billion needed to build this tunnel system.  We do have a huge water shortage in California.  We will not solve the water shortage by building this tunnel.  Instead we need to look for new supplies for water.  We need to build desalinization plants to take fresh water from the ocean.  We need to look for more ways to recycle water from waste and from agriculture.  Taking all this water from the north will damage fisheries and agriculture.
We need to reduce demand by stopping illegal immigration in this state.  It is far easier and less expensive, and a lot faster to deport a few million people who should not be here in the first place than it is to build this tunnel system.  Building this tunnel system will create jobs, on borrowed money, and insure more votes from the voters of Southern California, which is all Governor Brown is concerned about; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Genetic Modification

The first genetically modified human babies have been born, and may God help us in this situation.  In this instance they replaced genes from the mother with genes from another woman to help the mother conceive a child.  I think this is the limit that we should go with this type of technology.  The replacements of defective genes to insure normal function.
This type of gene modification has tremendous application and huge possibilities for abuse.  In my opinion is has the potential to rid the human population of genetic disease.  My late wife had a genetic disease and we did not have children as a result.  Eventually the disease contributed greatly to her death.  To be able to replace the gene for sickle cell anemia, or muscular dystrophy or any other genetic disease is a great benefit to mankind.
There is terrible potential for abuse.  This procedure should never be used for anything other than the correction of medical defects.  It should never be used to determine sex, to determine intelligence, height or any other factor that is not a simple repair of a genetic defect.  Red hair, or brown eyes are not genetic defects, and they should not be treated as such, but unscrupulous doctors will; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Mitt Romney went to speak at the convention of the NAACP.  AOL news headlines said he was booed.  He was booed one time.  He also got a standing ovation at the end of his speech.  If the Republican candidate does not go to the NAACP convention, then the media says Republicans are racist and are writing off the Black vote.  They say Republicans are afraid to face Black voters.
If the Republican candidate does speak to the NAACP, the media will say only that his speech was not well received.

Conservatives need to speak to groups of Blacks, Hispanics or anyone else who will listen.  What is good for America is good for all of us.  Low tax rates help everyone, not just White Americans, but Black Americans and Hispanic Americans too.  Conservatives must reach out to the moderates and bring moderates into the election process on our side or we lose elections.  Calling people names, not going to speak to groups, does not win elections.  President Obama has been a terrible president.  Not because he may have been born in Kenya, or may be communist, or may be a Muslim, or has not released his school records, or because he is Black, but he has been a terrible president because of his policies.

Conservatives need to attack President Obamas failed policies, and present our solutions to those problems.  We need jobs, we need industry, we need tort reform, we need deregulation to stimulate our economy.  We need to secure our borders, we need to stop drugs, abortion and homosexual marriage.  Many of these polices play well with Black voters.  Mitt Romney was right to speak to the NAACP and I hope more Republicans will follow that lead; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

A man who had four times the legal level of alcohol in his system was driving and killed another driver.  He was warned not to drive because he was too drunk.  He was seen by the police driving at a speed of over 100 miles per hour.  He ran two red lights.
Now the district attorney is charging him with murder.  I think that everyone who kills someone else while driving while intoxicated should be charged with at least vehicular manslaughter, if not actual murder.  Everyone knows that driving under the influence of alcohol is very dangerous.  Everyone knows that thousands of people are killed every year in drunk driving accidents.
There is no excuse for drunk driving.  Alcohol intoxication is a voluntary condition.  One that often takes a long time to achieve.  I think that a first offense should result in revocation of all driving privileges for at least five years.  Being found behind the wheel once one has been convicted, while on the no driving probation, should result in a prison term equal to the time remaining on probation.  We need to be harder on drunk drivers; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Mississippi River

A Mississippi river boat is taking tourists on a historic trip down the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee.  This project is the result of the government actually helping private enterprise make a new business happen.  As a result, hundreds of people are employed, and millions of new dollars are being spent, right here in the USA.

The United States has a long and tremendous history.  Much of that history was shown on the big screen, made into movies for our enjoyment and edification.  This riverboat takes both real and movie history and uses it to create an environment for tourists that gives everyone a little bit of what they are looking for in a vacation.

Rather than spending money on a cruise to Mexico, or the Bahamas, these tourists can keep their American dollars right here in America, creating American jobs.  They don't have to worry about travel advisories, drug lords or people who don't speak English.  Vacation in America this  year, and save American jobs; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

There are some laws that seem like a good idea but really don't work out in practice.  If we had an economy with full employment and jobs were going unfilled because there were not enough workers to do all the work, how much discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, orientation, or whatever do you think there would be in this country?  Very little, in my opinion and not only would there be very little, but the effect of any discrimination would be minimized because there would always be a better job down the street.

American businesses spend millions of dollars to train people not to discriminate, to avoid lawsuits, and to support various kinds of programs telling us how wonderful it is to have a diverse workplace.  The reality is that jobs don't belong to the employees or the government.  Jobs belong to the employer.  The employer should be able to hire, fire, promote or pass over any employee for any reason.  It's called freedom.  Employers who are smart will hire the best person for the job and will prosper.  Employers who are no good will hire the wrong person for the wrong reason and will not do well.  It's called free enterprise.

If someone wants to run a restaurant with an all female staff, that should be their choice.  If someone wants to run a hair salon with all Black employees, that should be their choice.  If a sports retailer does not want to hire employees who weight 400 pounds that should be their business.  We spend far to much time and effort requiring businesses to take time away from their core competencies and spend the time on diversity and other non-productive business.  No where else in the world do businesses have the pointless red tape our businesses have.  It makes us uncompetitive.  We would be better off to allow free markets and free enterprise to grow our economy and we would have plenty of good jobs for everyone; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Impose a Tariff

China has used the American free enterprise system to drain billions of dollars from this country and then used the same money to build up an unprecedented military force.  It is now using that force to intimidate it's neighbors into giving up claims to rich fisheries, ocean mining and oil riches.  Once the American fleet sailed these waters and insured the security of Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan and our other friends in this area.  Now the American fleet has been radically downsized because we have exported our jobs to China and our tax base can no longer afford the military we used to have.
We can fix this problem and bring jobs back to America.  First, every nation that does not have free elections must pay a 10% tariff on all goods, commodities and services imported into the US.  An additional 10% must be paid if they do no enjoy religious freedom.  So the Communist nations of China and Vietnam would be subject to a 20% tariff on all the products they sell to us, unless they free their people from oppression and allow political and religious freedom.   Every Islamist nation that sells oil to the United States would also have to pay the 10% religious oppression tariff, unless they choose to grant religious freedom to their citizens.
This simple plan would put pressure on other nations to grant freedom to their people, provide additional income to the Federal Government and encourage companies to move operations back to the United States where they would not have to pay those tariffs.  We could use the money to fund research into greater energy efficiency for engines for cars, boats, trucks and aircraft.  That would further reduce our need to import oil.  We need to use our economy to forward our values and to improve the lives of our people; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Christian vs Mormon

As a traditional Christian conservative I am concerned that Mitt Romney is a Mormon. My preference has always been to vote for people who share my values, and my world view, as an American and as a Christian.

While Mr. Romney is a Mormon, and I would prefer to vote for a Christian, I am reassured to some degree by the nature of Mormon belief. He is pro-life, the Democrats, hence, President Obama, are pro-abortion. He is opposed to special rights for homosexuals, and opposed to same-sex marriage. Unlike President Obama who has "evolved" on that issue and favors same-sex marriage. While Governor Romney did present "Romney Care" in his home state, it was a state matter, not a national matter and I don't believe it required people to pay for abortions and birth control pills who were morally opposed to them. As we know, Obama Care not only requires that, but there is some evidence that it may encourage, if not actually require euthanasia.

So while President Obama says he is a Christian, is view of Christianity seems far removed from mine. While Governor Romney says he is a Mormon, his values seem to be in concert with my view. While I am certain our theology would differ, it seems our values are very similar, Governor Romney and I. That's why I intend to vote for Governor Romney, even if my preference is to vote for Christians; clearly there are exceptions; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Colorado Shooting

Recently a "brilliant" college student entered a theater and shot and killed or wounded over 70 people. This is a terrible crime and in my opinion he deserves the death penalty. The theater chain has a "No Guns" permitted in the theater policy and even does not allow holders of CCWs to bring a gun into the theater. Despite the fact that Colorado issues permits to citizens to carry concealed weapons.
The shooter entered the theater with other patrons, then exited via an emergency exit which he propped open and went to his car, got three or four guns, returned to the theater. He exploded two grenades of either smoke or gas, and began firing his weapons. He was wearing a gas mask, I have heard he was wearing either a tactical vest, body armor or tactical body armor depending on which news media you read. His apartment was rigged with explosives and he surrendered to police almost immediately as they arrived within 90 seconds of the shooting. It is not unusual for police to work at shopping malls, even to have substations there. Despite their fantastic response time this type of active shooter can do a lot of damage in only a few seconds.

These are the facts as I understand them, but it is very early in the investigation. I would like to make a few observations about this incident. I have heard the news media state he was a member of the Tea Party. This is false. I have heard the news media say he was in the US Army, this is also false. I find it sad to think the main stream media will always jump to conclusions on little or no evidence to slander individuals and organizations whenever a terrible tragedy happens. When Representative Gifford was shot, this is exactly the same slanders the main stream media engaged in, reporting that the suspect was in the US Army and in the Tea Party. Both of these assertions were false.

Now I hear people on the right proclaim the suspect may be a registered Democrat, he may be a member of the Occupy Movement and even that this entire event may have been orchestrated by members of the FBI for political purposes to increase gun control. While I support conservatives investigation of this suspect, because I doubt the main stream media will bother to tell us if he is a Democrat or Occupy Movement member, I think it is most important to look for the truth. There is too much speculation based on incomplete knowledge, rumor, and even falsely created information. I support the search for the truth of this event, let the chips fall where they may.

There are evil people in every organization. They are in the church, the military, the Boy Scouts, they are Republicans, Democrats, and members of the Rotary. This is not an indictment of any of those fine organizations. They are a statement that we live in a fallen world, a world of sin and it reaches everywhere. The fact that John Wayne Gacy was a serial killer, cannibal, child molester, Democrat and clown is no negative reflection on the values of either Democrats or clowns. My respect for President Kennedy and for Bozo are not diminished by the actions of John Wayne Gacy.

If this suspect turns out to be a member of the Tea Party, or Occupy Movement it will not reflect on those movements because neither of them officially declare or call for open violence against non-violent, innocent citizens, minding their own business at a movie theater. I respect the Tea Party movement and I reject all that the Occupy Movement stands for; so don't confuse my position on those two groups with whatever we find out about this suspect. I read he had attended a Presbyterian Church; I don't think he emulates their values either.

As a conservative, law enforcement professional and person who believes in the right to keep and bear arms we must bear in mind the following facts. The S&W AR-15 style rifle the suspect used is similar to millions of rifles in American homes that are in use every day for self defense, hunting, sport shooting and collecting. It is a very common weapon, easy to shoot and made from a design that is fifty years old. Millions of Americans own one of these weapons and did not commit a crime today. The Remington 870 pump action shotgun the suspect used is a design that is over 100 years old, and they are still for sale today. They are used for hunting, self defense, and clay shooting, millions of Americans own these shotguns and did not commit any crimes with them today. The .40 caliber Glock pistol is not only one of the most common civilian guns in the United States, but Glock handguns are used by the vast majority of police in the United States.

None of these weapons is new, none of them are especially unusual in any way. They are all very common, and in use by civilians and police all over the nation. Any restrictions on these guns would be pointless as it could take at least a century for them to be out circulation, and probably never. They are used by law abiding citizens every day for lawful purposes, there is no reason to punish the innocent for the acts of a few criminals. The suspect drove a car to the theater, should we also look to ban cars for private use?

When asked if the shooter was her son, the mother said she did not know but seemed to indicate that she was not surprised that it could have been her son. He is very intelligent from all who have spoken about him. There are many intelligent people who are quite immoral. I suspect this person has no regard for other people and did this crime for his own amusement. Not unlike the evil man who did murdered all those people in Norway in 2011.

The suspect was carrying bombs and used them. Bombs are illegal, and unlike guns, are hard to get, yet he was able to obtain them and employ them. He had bombs at his apartment as well. It was illegal to shoot people, illegal to leave the theater by the emergency exit, prop it open and return. The fact that something is illegal does not mean that people won't do it, it just means that it will be more difficult and the person will be punished if they are caught.

Like so many of our disaffected youth, I suspect this suspect does not care that he was caught. He is intelligent enough to know how to do all these things, libraries and the Internet certainly provide all the training anyone of even average intelligence would need to perform these evil acts. He did not need the FBI, the Tea Party or Occupy Movement to train him how to buy and shoot rather common guns that he used in this attack. If he really just wanted to kill people he could have simply driven his car into the crowd and mowed down dozens, if not hundreds of people waiting for the movie.

I have heard the suspect painted his face, and died his hair red to appear like The Joker character from the Batman series. I have heard he said he was The Joker. If these are true, then it is additional evidence that this was an evil and corrupt individual to identify himself with a character that is as despicable as The Joker character.

In my opinion, there was no conspiracy here. There was no FBI involvement. The Tea Party, US Army and Occupy Movement had no culpability here, in my opinion this was a very intelligent, determined, evil man who murdered for the pleasure of killing and the publicity that he will get as a result. He wanted the feeling of power he got from killing unarmed, innocent people. He as not brave as evidenced by his immediate surrender to armed police officers. He is evil, he deserves the death penalty and he deserves it very soon.  That's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

In God We Trust

In the Old Testament times we read often about The Lord smiting those who are his enemies. Sometimes it's individuals. Some times it's large numbers of people. Sometimes it's whole cities of people. The Lord is very patient. He waits until people have had every opportunity to repent of their sins. Take Pharaoh of Egypt when he would not let the Israelites leave Egypt.

God could have simply killed him right away. God could have made do with only two or three plagues on Egypt. Rather, God gave Pharaoh plenty of time, and had Moses give him plenty of warning about what was going to happen. It was no secret to Pharaoh what God wanted, but he choose to try and do his own will.

Much is like that today. We as Americans have "In God We Trust" on our money. At the time that was put there it was true. America was safer, stronger and more moral then. Rather than use our freedom to create a better world for ourselves and others we have used our freedom to go against God's will. Companies cut workers pay, but pay the CEO a thousand times more money than the workers. We get divorced because we got married without thinking about it. We take drugs rather than enjoy the blessings of the real world. We have random sex with each other irrespective of the age, sex, marital status of our partner. We murder the unborn, and the old and others tell us it's okay to murder the newborn too. If we do indeed trust in God, maybe we need to do a better job of doing what he asks of us; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Sinful Behavior

Homosexual behavior is traditionally considered a sinful behavior in the Christian religion. It continues to be viewed that way by most Christians, the Roman Catholic Church for example considers it to be a sin.  Homosexual sex acts are sinful, just as any sex act outside of marriage is sinful. Pre-marital sex, extra-marital sex, sex with children, sex with people who are not consenting. All these are sinful behaviors. I condemn all those behaviors as harmful to the soul of the individuals participating in them.

I believe it is not right for society to condone, endorse, ratify, encourage, or approve any of those sexual behaviors. I believe they are behaviors that are harmful to the individuals involved and to society as a whole. I don't believe that homosexual preference is determined by genetics, I believe it is determined by environment. Even if that is true, and a homosexual preference is determined by genetics, then that does not excuse their behavior.

Many people believe that attraction to children may also be a genetic factor. If that is true, it only explains their behavior, it does not excuse it. Just as anyone with any mental condition is not permitted to commit crimes with impunity, homosexuals should not be permitted to marry or have any special rights simply because their preference is genetic. Alcoholics may have a compulsion to consume alcohol, but we don't consider being drunk or driving while intoxicated to be appropriate due to their condition; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

South Korea

American weakness in naval and conventional warfare has not gone unnoticed in the Pacific Rim. The weakness and poor reliability in war of the Obama Administration has also not gone unnoticed. President Obama wanted to cut and run in Iraq before victory was achieved. Now he wants to slink out of Afghanistan the same way.

When great nations decline, they lose the respect of other nations. The United States has been a nation in decline for years, particularly the last four years. Our national defense has been neglected despite being at war. We are neglecting missile defense, aircraft carriers, and tanks and other conventional weapons.

Now South Korea has determined that American defense is not reliable enough. North Korea threatens them as does Communist China. South Korea along with other nations in the Pacific Rim have realized that the US is not the super power we once were. They no longer think they can depend on us in an emergency. South Korea has voted in the next election, and they did not vote for President Obama, I won't either; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Recently I read an article about the US Army training to respond to various types of unrest in the United States and even using deadly force against US Citizens.  Many of the comments were quite concerned about this "unprecedented" use of the US military.

The Whiskey Rebellion during the President George Washington administration saw the Commander in Chief actually command troops in the field as President.

During the American Civil War, riots in New York City were so bad that the US Navy and US Army were called in and neighborhoods were shelled by ships.

During the 1906 there was rioting in San Francisco after the earthquake that was so bad thousands of troops were called in and instructions were given to shoot looters on sight.

There were additional riots and labor unrest in San Francisco in the 1930's that was so bad thousands of troops were put on alert and thousands of National Guardsmen were called in to restore order.

At Kent State National Guardsmen with essentially no riot control training shot and killed several demonstrators.

The use of US Army troops and deadly force is nothing new and as old as the Republic. It is the job of military planners to plan for the worst case scenarios and be ready for them. As a former member of the US Army Reserve and as present reserve police officer I know that the worse case scenario is the least likely but that by planning for it, parts of the plan can be used for lesser emergencies.

I am almost 60 and in my lifetime greater Los Angeles has had rioting so severe that they have had to call out the National Guard on several occasions, in Watts, after the death of Dr. King and also the Rodney King riots. Certainly in uncertain times, it is not unreasonable for the military to plan on riot control. Certainly they need deadly force policies and policies for dealing with large numbers of prisoners.

In the Rodney King riots thousands were arrested, what do you do with all those people when in normal times the jails are mostly full? If the rioters shoot at you, what should the soldiers do, how should they respond? When people are looting stores, do we want to keep gun shops full of guns unprotected? One of the worst things you can do is to not have policies, training and procedures to deal with deadly force incidents.
The important thing is to elect leaders who will use their power responsibly and take proper care of the trust of the nation. Control our spending, return to the proper role of government and allow people the freedom to care for themselves. As police we take an oath to protect against all enemies foreign and domestic, and that includes rioters. The best way to keep the military out of law enforcement is to keep local control of your police and to keep them professional so they can keep civil unrest under control so additional help is not needed, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Atheism is a religion. The people who are atheists not only believe God does not exist, they believe it despite any evidence. They take it on faith that any evidence of God has to have a rational, that is non-supernatural explanation.
Despite the fact that every society in the history of man has had a religious belief, they believe they have "evolved" beyond the need to believe in anything other than themselves. In this way it is a type of narcissism. They are their own god. They are their own highest power. No one has any moral authority over them because their is no higher moral power than their own reasoning and their own mind.
Atheism is also an exclusive religion. They are intolerant of any other religious belief. Rarely do I encounter an atheist who says, we are all okay to worship as we please. Rather they want to stamp out even the smallest of vestige of religion, particularly Christianity. They do this because they instinctively know that Christianity poses the greatest threat to atheism because Christianity is true; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Conservative Message

I believe that the United States is divided about 50/50 for people who want limited government and people who want unlimited government. People who stand on their own two feet and people who want someone to take care of them.  What is the best tactic to bring about change? How can we the 50% that is traditional, conservative, try to bring ten or twenty percent of the other half back around to our way of thinking? What will be effective?

In my opinion, there are 20%, of the liberal half that will essentially never be converted to conservative thinking. I do believe that it is not too late to change the minds of a fair chunk of the liberal 50% but we must be clever to do it. I don't think we conservatives are doing a good job of getting our message across.  A few recent examples.

"Tanks are patrolling the streets of St. Louis, Missouri to practice taking over the government when President Obama declares a coup."  "Obummer," "Obamination," "The Usurper," "The Muslim in the White House"  "We are on the verge of a dictatorship."  Which of these statements is likely to cause a moderate American to become a conservative American?  When we make charges that are patently false, like the so called tanks in St. Louis, we conservatives lose all credibility. If we don't know what we are talking about, why would anyone listen to us?

When we call the President names, we show a lack of respect. While I don't respect Mr. Obama, I do respect President Obama. When liberals called President Reagan names, I did not think it was appropriate, and I don't think it is appropriate to call any president names. If the best argument we can put forward is to call people names, then we don't have much of an argument, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Chinese Weapons

In the 1930's Fascist Italy there was a company named Beretta.  They have been in business for hundreds of years making firearms.  They made excellent handguns and sub machine guns.  They still do make excellent weapons.  I think in the 1930's it would have been inappropriate for a totalitarian country to produce weapons for the American military.  Just as today, I think it is inappropriate for totalitarian nations like Communist China to make weapons for the American military.

Despite that, the US Armed Forces get thousands of weapons components from Communist China.  Today's weapons are not just simple steel forgings making tanks or pistols.  Many of them use electronic parts that are made all over the world, often in Communist China.  Is it a good idea to be dependant on a nation that is a potential enemy for our weapons?

While we many not fight Communist China directly, they often take the other side in various parts of the world.  What happens if we have to fight Iran, and Chinese weapons in American use are disabled or suddenly are in short supply because the Chinese support the Iranians?  What happens if the Chinese reveal secrets to our enemies so they can gain an advantage over us?  American weapons for American defense; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Miniatures Horses

The Americans with Disabilities Act has become the Americans Disabling Business Act. Companies have to admit miniature horses as guide animals. Muslims think dogs are unclean so they can't have dogs as guide animals. Instead they have miniature horses. So the full power of the Federal Government is coming down on your local neighborhood Italian pizza shop to insure that blind Muslims can bring their horses inside the shop. Somehow that does not seem too much like the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Companies that serve a certain market share will prosper. If there are enough blind Muslims with miniature horses to warrant prosperous restaurant service than such restaurants will appear. If there are not, then why do we need every guest at the restaurant to subsidize the few, if any, who will ever go there? The whole point of freedom is to allow people to do what they want. Not to force one group of people to do something for another group of people.

This type of pointless regulation is the type of thing that does not enhance productivity and is not found in other nations. This is the reason American companies are not competitive. Companies have to borrow money to remodel their businesses to comply with laws that won't bring more money into their shops. California and many of it's cities are near bankruptcy. How many millions will they have to spend to modify their city buses to comply with the rule to accept guide miniature horses? Another stupid waste of taxpayer money; that's the view from Hysterical Right Wing.

Fantasy Land

If you don't have cellulosic biofuel to mix in your gasoline products as a gasoline maker, the EPA will fine you. There is no such thing as commercially produced cellulosic biofuel, but that's no excuse. You still have to pay the fine. You see the Federal Government is not confined by reality. They can tax you on things that don't exist because you don't have them, even though they are mandated.

In California, the state government is trying to get electric cars and mandating certain percentages of the fleet must be electric. It does not matter that there are no decent electric cars available. It does not matter that California has an electricity shortage. What matters is that some bureaucrats think electric cars are a good idea so they are requiring we have them.

California has a high speed rail authority too. We are supposed to have a network of high speed bullet trains in the state, linking north and south. They have been working on them for over ten years and so far, we have no functioning bullet trains. Communist China has bullet trains, brand new ones. They started after California did and finished before we even got started. Taxes on products that are mandated but don't exist. Government mandates for cars that don't exist. Trains that don't even get built, much less run on time. No wonder people move their factories to China; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Christian Persecution

A pro-life college group got permission to put little crosses up on the school bleachers. They installed the crosses as part of their witness to the world of their pro-life agenda. Then a pro-abortion student asked her art professor if it would be okay for her to put a condom on each of the crosses. The art professor had nothing to do with the cross project, so had no authority to grant permission to tamper with the project.

The pro-abortion student placed a condom on each of the crosses, and despite the fact that the pro-life project was sanctioned by the school, the school police stood by and did not stop her. Later, the pro-abortion student said she was aware that some might be offended by her actions, but justified it by saying she was offended by the original crosses. Later, she refused to apologize for tampering with the crosses.

This is so typical of the left. They are offended by traditional beliefs. They do what they want, even if they know it will offend others, and interfere with other peoples rights and property. If she wanted to protest, she should have placed condoms on her own crosses, not hijack someone else's project. As a liberal, she felt her right to free speech and free expression trumps anyone else's right to the same thing. Another example of Christian oppression in our schools, right here in America; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Rich and Poor

John D. Rockefeller Jr. was one of the richest men in the world. This quotation is attributed to him:
"I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty." Today we see many ultra rich, and very poor Americans who act as if this quote has nothing to do with their lives.
Every right implies a responsibility. If you have a right to a job without discrimination, then don't you have a responsibility to make every effort to get a job, no matter how long it takes to get it? Don't you have a responsibility to make yourself employable, if you have a right to an education, shouldn't you go as far in school as you can?
If you have an opportunity to serve you community, why don't you do it? If you have an opportunity to attend college, then why don't you go? If you have an opportunity to do good, they why not do good? There are schools that need aids to volunteer. Hospitals that need candy stripers and senior volunteers. Police and fire departments that use volunteer help; why don't you take up that obligation?
There is hardly a home in America that does not have electricity, indoor plumbing, a telephone, television; unless they don't want it for some reason. How many of the super rich serve in the military? How many of them have more possessions than a hundred other Americans and yet they give near nothing to charity? Americans have forgotten obligations, duty's, and responsibilities; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Child Care

A study shows that there are negative consequences for children who live in the families of homosexual parents.  This study will be ignored by the main stream media.  The MSM cares only for salacious articles and articles that challenge the accepted wisdom of the ages.

The Bible states that God created man and woman in his own image and commanded them to go forth and multiply.  Marriage has been between one man and one woman since the begining of time for all succsuful civilizations.  The primary reason for marriage is to create and raise the next generation.

The best and most stable way for that to happen is for the child to be raised by his biological father and mother; married to each other and committed to their long term relationship and to their child.  The farther away one moves from that ideal the more likely the child will have emotional problems.  Children are important to our nation and we are doing our children and our nation a disservice when we intentional place them in family situations that are less than ideal; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Win Big

When conservatives write about revolution and dictatorship we scare people away from us. Even if we think those are possibilities it is best not to dwell on them. Just like we should be prepared for earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane, volcano, invasion and other disasters we should always be prepared for revolution and dictatorship, but when we bring it up to the average moderate they perceive us as radicals.

Rather than call the president names, rather than act alarmist, we the right must lure the center to us. We won't do that by scaring them. We won't do that by showing disrespect for our elected officials. We will do that by arguing the issues we have with the bad things President Obama has done while in office.

Huge deficits, higher taxes, unprecedented balance of trade, continuing wars, withdrawal from Iraq without victory, repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, endorsement of homosexual marriage, Fast and Furious, and many other issues are what we need to focus on. Calling him names and being alarmist won't win us elections. We traditional conservatives need to offer solutions to the nations problems and address them to the moderates in the electorate. If we do that, we can win big that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Values Voters

When we call President Obama a Muslim we again, hurt our credibility. Jesus said, Judge not lest ye be judged also. I don't know what is in President Obama's heart. If he is a Christian, then I think he is a very poor one based on his actions as President.

That being said, if he is a Muslim, the answer to that is So what? We have religious freedom and if he wants to be a Muslim, that's his business, apart from his lying to American people. I believe Islam is a false religion, but he is free to be a Muslim if he wants to be one. Personally, I don't think he has any particular religious belief and simply claimed to be Muslim or Christian at different times in his life because that's what other people wanted to hear.

The important thing is not his religious belief, it is his policies that are wrong. It is not if he is a Christian, Muslim or atheist that is the problem, the problem is he lacks a strong traditional moral compass to direct the nation.  That is were conservatives can bring moderates to our side; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Fifth Sunday after Trinity

I have been training to become a deacon in the church.  Here is my first sermon given today:

+ Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be alway acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength and my redeemer.

Good morning and thank you all for being here for my first sermon, ever.  The Holy Bible is filled with great stories.  Stories that have been told both in church and even in the secular world because they are so good and everyone can identify with them.  For the last few weeks I have been a Postulate for the Deaconate, and part of that training is to write and present sermons.

So as part of that training FR Morello told me that the sermon should be based on three things: the Old Testament reading, the Epistle and the Gospel for the day.  He said that I would give the sermon for the Fifth Sunday after Trinity as my first sermon!

I went home and looked it up on my computer.  Would it be the story of the Prodigal son?  Everyone likes that one; the son spends all his inheritance, and is starving and feeding pigs.  He finally gives up and goes home.  He is rehearsing his speech to his father about how sorry he is and how wrong he was.  His father sees him coming, they kill the fatted calf, they have a big party and everyone has a good time.  That’s a great story, with a happy ending.

Maybe I could preach on the miracle of the bread and fishes.  Thousands of people have come to hear Jesus speak, they had a good time.  They learned a lot, and now they are all hungry.  But there is not enough food to feed them all.  A little boy has a tiny lunch with a couple pieces of bread and some fish, and Jesus performs a miracle and feeds everyone.  At the end they have more food than when they started, everyone loves that story.

Then there is the story about Jesus walking on water.  There is a storm raging, and He approaches a boatload of disciples and at first they don’t recognize him but think he is a ghost.  Then they realize it’s Him and they are happy and amazed.  One of them is so excited he even gets out of the boat and walks on the water towards Jesus.  That’s a very memorable story, everyone likes that one too.

So I looked it up and I find, the Gospel lesson, Mark 6:1-13.  It’s not the prodigal son.  It’s not the feeding of the 5,000.  It’s not Jesus walking on water.  It’s the story where Jesus goes to his home parish and preaches and the people ask, “Who’s this guy?”   “Isn’t he Mary’s boy?”  It’s the story that people say, “You are never a prophet in your own home.”  And you know my mother’s name was Mary. Wow.  Thanks for that.

At first this seemed like the worst possible topic for a first sermon.  The one where nobody believes Jesus or what he has to say, because if they don’t believe Jesus in his hometown, while will these people believe Mike in his hometown?  Or is that what this Gospel message really says.  What does the Old Testament reading and the Epistle say?

In the Old Testament lesson, The LORD is speaking to Ezekiel and tells him he has a job for him to do.  The LORD tells Ezekiel that he has to go talk to some stubborn people. Some people who are rebellious and impudent.  The LORD tells Ezekiel that he has to go to those people and tell them a message from GOD.  The LORD says that some of them will refuse to hear him.  But Ezekiel has to tell them the message anyway.

The LORD tells Ezekiel to go tell some people a message, but some of them will refuse to hear it.  Jesus goes to his hometown to deliver a message but some of the people will refuse to hear HIM.   I think I may have found a trend here.  But wait, there’s still the Epistle.

In the Epistle, ST Paul talks about boasting about things when he talks.  He talks about boasting about his infirmities.  How does this fit into the message of the other two, the Old Testament lesson and the Gospel?  ST Paul also talks about boasting about someone else who was taken into Paradise and someone who was taken up into heaven.  He talks about boasting about them and what they saw and heard when they were there.

I think when we look at these three messages from the Bible; it’s clear what GOD is trying to communicate to us.  The first thing is, it’s our responsibility to speak the Word of God at every opportunity.  Even if we don’t think anyone is listening.  Even if we don’t think the people will hear.  Even if the people are in rebellion against God and don’t want to hear about God.  We have to speak HIS word.

We are imperfect creatures.  We all fall short of the goal of perfection.  We are in a broken and sinful world; we are broken and sinful creatures.  God has no other choices but to use us  broken and sinful humans to broadcast his word.  All people live in a world that falls short of God’s glory and perfection, but it does not matter that we are imperfect.  We must do what God wants us to do, to speak his word in truth and love, as best as we can.

Let’s look again at what the Gospel for today tells us.  Jesus went to his hometown with his disciples.  He preached there to the people.  And the people did not believe what he told them.  “They took offense at him” it says.  Yet he spoke.  He taught, he was amazed at their disbelief.  But the story does not end there.  Because it also says he laid hands on sick people and cured them.

That is a very important aspect to this story.  One that is easy to overlook.  An aspect that sort of slides by if we are not looking for it.  If we look again at Ezekiel it says, “They will know there has been a prophet among them.”  So even in a people that won’t hear, some of them still hear a little bit of truth; as a people they still know that a prophet was there, even if they don’t want to know what he said.  That was important enough to God to send Ezekiel to them.

That’s part of the whole.  Speaking to a people who don’t want to hear was important to God.  See, God sees the big picture.  He sees what we don’t know.  He knows that while Ezekiel is speaking directly to people who don’t want to listen, that indirectly Ezekiel is speaking through the ages, even to us today.  God commanded Ezekiel to speak, even if Ezekiel could not know who would be hearing his words, even if the people who hear his words hear those words twenty-five hundred years later.

Even when ST Paul is subject to insults and calamities and even persecutions he perseveres because he knows that it is important to speak the Word of God to the people.  He knows that God can use even an imperfect vessel to carry His message to the people.  That even if we do a poor job of preaching to a people who don’t want to hear what we have to say, that some of it will have an effect.

They scoffed at Jesus, but some had enough belief in him to allow him to lay hands on them and have him heal them.  Sometimes a task can seem insurmountable, too big, and too hard for a man to do.  Preaching the Word is much like that.  It’s too big.  It’s God’s Word and I am just a man.  The people won’t want to listen to what I have to say; maybe.  But maybe some will.  Maybe only one will.

I have spent most of my life in emergency services and I know that sometimes you can’t save everyone.  I suspect that life is like that in religion too.  While God wants to save everyone, if the people won’t listen, they won’t be saved. If the people won’t hear the prophets, they won’t be saved.  If the people won’t listen to the words of Jesus, they won’t be saved.

Sometimes you just do the best you can, and hope for the best.  So here I am, the imperfect sermon writer, delivering an imperfect sermon, in my hometown, hoping you will hear, not my imperfect words but the perfect words of God.

Gun Control

Gun sales are up, and according to the FBI crime is down.  Accidental deaths by firearms are also down.  The National Instant Background Check System shows more guns are being sold than ever before.  If the anti-gun people are correct, then more guns should equal more crime, but that has not happened. If the anti-gun people are correct, then more guns should equal more accidental firearms deaths, but that has not happened.

We don't need more gun control, we need less gun control.  In 1927 it was legal in California to buy a handgun by mail from out of state, without a background check or waiting period.  The buyer could purchase a semi-automatic weapon, or even a machine gun, with a fifty or one-hundred round magazine.  All without government permission, approval, sanction or intervention.

There is more crime now than in 1927.  And yet all those things are illegal now, that were legal in 1927.  Gun control has been a complete and abject failure.  It has done virtually nothing to disarm the criminal element in society.  Laws like the three strikes law that keep career criminals in jail keep down crime.  Burglars some times do one or two burglaries per day.  That's four or five hundred burglaries per day, per burglar.  You lock up one of these guys for ten years, you have prevented four or five thousand burglaries.  Punish the crooks, not the good guys, that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

The Federal government is broke.  To my mind that means the Federal government should not spend money on anything that that is not essential to run the country.  Some projects like the study of chimpanzees may be interesting, but they are not essential.  That project should not be paid for by the Federal government.

I understand that some projects that sound bad actually have a valid purpose.  Studying what attracts fruit flies to a sex partner may be used to lure them to a poison so they will eat the poison and not the fruit.  On the other hand, if fruit growers will benefit from such research, why don't they pay for it?

Every bit of money the Federal government spends that they don't get in taxes or fees they have to get by borrowing from someone.  Often that means they are borrowing money from the Communist Chinese.  Fifty years ago we did not even recognize their government, now we depend on them for our budget shortfall.  We need to control our imports, cut regulations and taxes, grow our economy and stop borrowing; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Pray for the President

When President Bush was in office he used to thank Christians for praying for him.  He used to say how much he appreciated it and he was sure it was helping him to govern the nation.  President Obama says he is a Christian. I believe he is the worst president in my lifetime, and considering some of those who have held the office in the last sixty years I think that says a lot.  Maybe he is doing such a poor job because we who profess to be patriots and Christians are not praying for him.

When was the last time you prayed for President Obama?  If God would move in his heart, perhaps President Obama would turn from his sinful ways; his endorsement of homosexual marriage, his communist leanings, his apologies to the pagan Muslims and turn back to God.  I have renewed my prayers for him that God might turn him from sin to become a more rightous man.

"O LORD, our heavenly Father, the high and mighty Ruler of the universe, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwelllers upon earth; Most heartily we beseech thee, with thy favour to behold and bless thy servant THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,  and all others in authority; and so replenish them with the grace of the Holy Spirit, that they may always incline to thy will, and walk in thy way.  Endue them plenteously with heavenly gifts; grant them in halth and prosperity long to live; and finally, after this life, to attain everlasting joy and felicity; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen."

Book of Common Prayer, 1928, pages 17 & 18.

Mark 2:17, "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."  I urge all of you to pray for President Obama, and vote for Mitt Romney; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Tanks in the Streets!

There have been several articles on line recently about the tanks rolling into the streets of St. Louis.  Concerns that President Obama is going to take over the nation with martial law have been voiced by some.  Much ado about nothing.  As usual, people who know little or nothing about the military commenting about the Army.  These are not tanks, they are armored cars, the kind Military Police use, some sort of V-150 series it appears.
They are Military Police from Maryland, doing training. All Military Police train at Ft. Leonard Wood, which is about 80 miles away from St. Louis, MO.  Since there are no other built up areas near there, it makes perfect sense for them to train on the streets of St. Louis.

Driving large military vehicles around is a skill that requires practice. Most of our wars that will involve Military Police will likely involve cities, like Baghdad.  Armored cars are no where near as armored as tanks, nor do they have the big guns tanks have.  Military Police are typically assigned to escort convoys and provide them protection, a job they did in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and are still doing now.  One of my good friends in the California National Guard has been deployed to Iraq, Serbia and other places to do just that. They ran convoy escorts fifty or a hundred miles in a day.

Bad reporting by people who know nothing about the military or how it functions.  This is not a waste of funds. They are simulating the exact type of mission MP's do without having to build some huge base to do it on.  Every branch of the military has it's own school where they train people. Ft. Leonard Wood has been the MP branch school since at least WWII. The Army sent me to Arizona to train at my service school many times, they started that, under General George Washington with the Engineer school.  Nothing sinister, nothing evil, nothing unusual; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Reciprocity Bill

The Congress is considering several versions of firearms concealed carry reciprocity bills.  The bill would allow people who have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in their home state to carry a concealed weapon in other states, or if their home state allows concealed carry without a permit then they can carry a concealed weapon in other states.

People have a right to keep and bear arms, guarenteed by the Constitution.  I believe that citizens get to own and carry firearms without the permission of the government.  I don't mind states issuing a permit but the state should require permits to be issued if the citizen requests a permit.  The requirements and fees should be very low.

I hope that some version of this bill passes.  I also hope the president signs it into law.  The Federal government should not require additional requirements for interstate carry that the individual states don't mandate.  Free men carry guns, subjects ask permission for guns, slaves don't get guns; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Haters gotta hate.

 That's paedophobic.

It's all about the love.

Intergenerational love.

Don't push your Christian values down their throats.

If you complain too much about it, then you must be one yourself, because you always become what you hate.

You must be hiding your own feelings about child love behind a wall of hate because you don't love yourself or who you really are.

Roman Polanski was a genius who was persecuted for being different.

President Obama is probably evolving on this issue right now...

Look for the above quotes on the Internet in the comments sections of articles about this crime. Also look to the mainstream media to lose interest in this story very quickly because it does not further their agenda.

I always thought the punishment should last at least as long as the effects of the crime. Since this old man did something that will torture young men for the rest of their lives, then he should forfeit his life for this crime.

I think anyone who performs three or more rapes or child molestations should simply get the death penalty. The first two should result in substantial prison terms; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.

Humans should not kill other humans, except in self-defense or as punishment for a crime after judged by a court, or during war as necessary to accomplish a legitimate objective.  I suspect most people would agree with that statement.  Some might even cut it back still further.  The Bible teaches thou shalt do no murder, and certainly none of those examples of mine would constitute murder by most definitions.

Atheists have long been working to re-define what it means to be human.  A baby is a human.  A fetus is not a human.  A fetus is just tissue.  Therefore it is permissible to remove tissue from a woman and dispose of it.  If a fetus were a baby, then a fetus would be human.  If a human were removed from a woman and disposed of, that would be wrong.  But since it's just tissue, it's okay.  A fetus that is carried to term that survives a "procedure" that is unwanted is not a person. We have already defined it as such when it is inside the woman. It is still just tissue when it is outside the woman if it is "unwanted." Therefore it is proper to dispose of it.

Someone who is unable to feed themselves is in a vegetative state.  They are no longer human.  They are post-human.  Therefore is is morally acceptable to stop feeding them and dispose of the remains.  They are not a human.  It would be inhumane to stop feeding a person.  Since they are not a person it is not inhumane.  How soon before you become unwanted?  Are welfare recipients human? Or they unwanted?  How about the unemployed?  Are they human?  Are they unwanted?  Are the homeless human?  Are they unwanted?  How many people have to want you before you cease to be human?  Humans are created in the image of God, they are not born in the image of God; therefore they are sacred from the beginning no matter how many people want them, because God loves them; that's the view from the Hysterical Right Wing.
